Teatro Akuara Proudly Presents Traficantes de Pasión

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Miami-based theater company ‘Teatro Akuara’ will proudly present the company’s latest work Traficantes de Pasión on Sunday, February 12 at the L-train Theater, downtown St. Petersburg.  The play is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm, following a prelude of cocktails and hors d'oeuvre beginning at 7:00 pm.

Based on the masterpiece literary work Les Liaisons Dangereuses by French novelist Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and on the novel’s subsequent adaptation to theatrical production Quarttet by German theatre director Henier Muller, Traficantes de Pasión offers a new, refreshing interpretation of these two groundbreaking works.  Featuring lead actors Yvonne López Arenal, Carlos Alberto Pérez and Joan Vega, Traficantes de Pasión depicts the complex love-hate relationships among the play’s different characters, challenging the spectator to view a traditional theme through the lenses of a more contemporaneous theatrical experience that combines some of the most vanguard techniques in cinematography and theater.

Written and directed by Yvonne López Arenal, Traficantes de Pasión was widely acclaimed when it first premiered in Miami last October 14, 2011.  Teatro Akuara has now selected St. Petersburg to be the first city to which the company brings Traficantes de Pasión on tour.

Teatro Akuara’s origins date back to 1998, when the company began performing in Los Angeles, California.  The company was subsequently reborn in Miami, and was officially formed on March, 27, 2011, to coincide with the celebration of the international “World Theater Day”.  Since then, Teatro Akuara has staged and helped produce several theater works including Obba, by Excilia Saldaña, El Banquete Infinito, by Alberto Pedro Torriente, and Virginia, by Rita Martin, and has hosted numerous poetry, music and visual arts productions.

For reservations and tickets information to Traficantes de Pasión, please contact Teatro Akuara at 786-853-1283 or Linda Ramirez at 727-471-3542, or email Akuarateatro1@gmail.com. The price for admission is $20.00 per ticket (only for the play).  The L-train Theater is located at 900 Central Ave. Suite 25B, St. Petersburg, FL 33705.
